Not knowing can be hard. But it’s an essential ingredient to great theater. It keeps artists and audiences on our toes. It makes possible the surprise and revelation we come back to see under the tent year after year.
As Artistic Director, it’s gratifying to remember how little we knew a year ago about how the 2019 Season would play. Would you share our delight in a play as twisted and unconventional as CYMBELINE? Could five actors bring together the astonishing virtuosity required for Jason O’Connell and Brenda Withers’ new adaptation of CYRANO? How would a perennial favorite like MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING speak to our current moment? And, most unknown of all, how would HVSF’s first-ever musical – Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s complicated and beloved INTO THE WOODS, play underneath our iconic tent?
THANK YOU for embracing this season’s plays and turning out in huge numbers, many returning again and again, filling the tent for 79 magical performances over 13 weeks.
We hope you will kindly consider giving to the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival in honor of a great 2019 season, and an exciting 2020 to come. Thank you, your support is so meaningful to us!
In 2019 we set sail across unpath’d waters, and arrived at undreamed shores. But, venturing into the unknown also means taking on risk and added costs. Without your continued and increased support, we could never have produced this season, or the one we are planning for next summer.
As we plan for what will thrill, surprise, and astonish you in 2020, please join us in the risk and reward of producing excellent theater in the Hudson Valley by making a generous gift inspired by HVSF’s extraordinary 2019 season, and many more to come.
