Our annual HVSF2 Reading Series typically takes place at the Philipstown Depot Theatre in tandem with the mainstage season, but this summer we are moving it online. While certainly not that same as an in-person show, online readings harken back to the era of radio plays, they allow you to focus on the story and have the added intimacy of seeing actors up close.
If you’re thinking of attending, but not sure exactly what to expect, we’ve got you covered! Read on for the beginner’s guide to live-streamed theater.
Do I have to download anything to attend?
Nope! The performances will be shown live through HVSF’s Vimeo page. You will need a device with access to the internet.
Do I need to buy a ticket?
We will be streaming these performances for free, but if you are in a position to do so, we are suggesting a $20 donation to support HVSF. You will need to register in advance to join us for the performances.
Register for the plays here. You will be sent an email the day before the show with the link to access the video stream.
Will the actors be in the same room?
No, actors won’t physically be together, but they will be in the same online space — actors will call in from their location into a video conference that then travels to Vimeo (with assistance from our wonderful stage manager, Jo Fernandez) to create the performance. Different actors’ video screens will appear based on the scene.
Will there be costumes?
Not in the traditional, full-fledged, under the tent way. Based on the director’s vision (and on what the actors have in their closets!) there may be minimal costume elements — for example, a hat that an actor takes on and off to indicate a character change.
Do I have to watch the performance at a designated time?
Yes! Our actors are performing live and unedited. There is something about the live element that makes the whole thing really exciting — and a specialness in knowing that we’re all watching at the same moment.
Join us at 7:30pm ET on August 13, 20, and 27.
