Week of Revolution

August 27 - September 4, 2017

Get closer to the story of Benedict Arnold’s infamous defection through a week jam-packed with events, reenactments and outdoor adventures at Boscobel House and Gardens, Putnam History Museum, West Point Museum, Constitution Island, and more — perfect for the history nerd in all of us!

These free and ticketed events are presented in conjunction with this season's production of THE GENERAL FROM AMERICA, running August 4 - September 3, 2017. Don't miss this hyper-local slice of Revolutionary-era history!

Living History: Military Reenactment Day at Boscobel House and Gardens

11:00a - 4:00p Explore military encampments from American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War as reenactors demonstrate camp life with inspections, formations, musket firings, artillery demonstrations, and drills. See General George Washington inspect his troops, President Abraham Lincoln address his army, and more! Following the Traitor's Trail: A Hike with Hudson Highlands Land Trust

10:00a - 11:30a [FREE] Recommended for children ages 4-7 and their families: Join Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk for a family-friendly hike that follows the footsteps of General George Washington’s men as they chased after the traitorous Benedict Arnold. Children will be delighted to search for clues along the Arnold’s Flight Trail in Garrison, and help General Washington track the elusive turncoat. The trail’s changing terrain and inclines will add to the sense of adventure! Meet at the Philipstown Recreation Center parking lot and be prepared for moderate terrain (no strollers, please). Brown Bag Lunch at the West Point Museum

Boat Tour of Constitution Island with the Constitution Island Association

3:00p - 5:00p [FREE] Experience Benedict Arnold’s own flight across the Hudson River and an informative tour of this historic island with the knowledgeable Constitution Island Association! The boat departs at 3:00pm sharp from West Point's South Dock. Limited availability, registration required.

July 23 - Fall 2017  |  Exhibit: Benedict Arnold in the Hudson Highlands at Putnam History Museum

PHM will display documents, clothing, art, books, and other artifacts to help tell the story of Arnold's defection, with a preview reception for PHM members on the evening of Saturday, July 22.  Material will be loaned from the West Point Museum at the United States Military Academy, the Unique Collections department of the West Point Library, and several local collectors.  Learn more >

August  |  Treasure Hunt at West Point Museum

Together with Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, the Museum will create a custom Revolutionary War Treasure Hunt guide to encourage exploration through its halls and discovery of items relating to the Revolutionary period and Arnold himself.
