“Speak what we feel, not what we ought to say.”

HVS Artistic Director, Davis McCallum directs Shakespeare’s searing tragedy featuring Kurt Rhoads in the title role. An aging monarch divides his kingdom among daughters from whom he demands love as proof of loyalty, igniting a chain of betrayal and destruction that shatters both family and state. As power corrodes reason and madness rises with the storm, Lear is cast into a furious tempest of his own making. There, stripped of authority and illusion, he sees too late that a king must first be a man and that the hard-won price of wisdom is everything he once held dear.
