Is there a specific recipe you make when you invite friends and family to the tent? Or do you stop beforehand at a local spot for takeout? Do you bring your favorite beverage or supplement your picnic with a drink from the HVSF café? Let me know your favorite rituals. We’re starting things off by rounding up some of the picnic must-haves from our staff.
Read some traditions from our HVSF Staff.
Scotty Arnold, Manager of Sales and Membership:
My picnic picks — cheese and bread from Cold Spring Cheese Shop, and a big bottle of something strong!

Marie D’Apice, Education Programs Manager:
When I attend a show with my mom, we have a checklist that we always bring for our picnic:
- Yoga mats to sit on
- Cheese and crackers
- A local red wine
- Quinoa salad

Amy Brown, Director of Marketing and Communications:
Leading up to an evening under the tent with friends, I always have ambitious plans to make some type of summer salad. Inevitably I run out of time and end up calling Isamu in Beacon and ordering different types of sushi to share. I’ll meet friends at will call, stop by the HVSF café for an Industrial Arts beer, and enjoy some good company on the lawn before the show!

Davis McCallum, Artistic Director:
I love to get a Gogo Pop (usually The Bear, inspired by THE WINTER’S TALE, which features chamomile tea and honey) at intermission and then lurk around the area between the concession tent and the theater to try to eavesdrop on people’s conversations about the show. 🙂

Kate Liberman, Managing Director:
My favorite thing is to get a GoGo Pop before the show (my favorite is The Puck a green avocado/Kiwi/coconut/lime pop) and walk around the great lawn checking out everyone else’s AMAZING picnics and saying hi to our back stage and wardrobe crew.
