House Manager
HVSF seeks an energetic, warm, and highly organized House Manager to join HVSF’s summer Front-of-House team and lead a dedicated group of seasonal staffers. Working in close partnership with HVSF’s Manager of Ticketing and Audience Services, Director of Production, Theater Operations Manager, and Stage Managers, the House Manager will ensure consistent and efficient handling of nightly on-site operations. This position reports directly to the Manager of Ticketing and Audience Services.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with the Manager of Ticketing and Audience Services, has primary responsibility for house management of all public events at Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival and can expect to work 4-5 performances per week.
- Responsible for the general safety, care, and well-being of the audience, handling seating issues, responding to illness or injuries, etc.
- Responsible for physical oversight of the public areas for events, including preparing the parking area, theater tent, restrooms, and other public areas for guests before performances.
- Makes reports to the Manager of Ticketing and Audience Services and Theater Operations Manager for necessary clean-up and repairs, while taking care of minor needs as they arise.
- Assists and oversees clean-up and close-down at the conclusion of performances.
- Acts as liaison with stage manager in opening the house and beginning the show by communicating the status of unclaimed reservations, lines at the box office, and extenuating circumstances such as inclement weather, and determines whether to hold the curtain.
- Prepares and distributes detailed performance reports at the end of each performance to pertinent HVSF staff via email.
- Takes active role in managing accessibility at all events, including working with box office in noting wheelchair and other special needs.
- This position works non-standard hours and flexibility in schedule is required. Shifts are generally 4:00pm – 11:00pm Wednesday – Monday. Daytime shifts (10:00am – 4:00pm) may be needed for matinee performances and on an as-needed basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Experience, and Personal Characteristics:
- Have two years of theater experience, with one year of supervisory experience is preferred.
- Have working knowledge of theater and experience working with large groups of people preferred
- Have experience leading a team
- Demonstrate a consistently high level of warm, welcoming, and thoughtful customer service
- Be able to quickly and effectively diffuse high-tension situations and positively respond to a variety of customer personalities
- Be a skillful collaborator and good-humored, “hands-on” team member
- Punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail are required.

Terms and Compensation:
This is a seasonal, part-time commitment starting June 2024 through September 2024 requiring weekend and evening availability and paid $18 per hour. The work for this position is primarily in-person. This position operates in a professional front-of-house outdoor theater environment. All staff members at HVSF are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID 19.

Front of House & Box Office Team
Front of House (FOH) and Box Office staff members are often the first point of contact for audience members arriving at the theater. We are looking for folks that are comfortable assisting customers and welcoming individuals from all backgrounds.
This is a seasonal position paid $15 per hour. Customer service training will be provided.

Deck Carpenter
The Deck Carpenter works as a member of the Run Crew and closely with the Stage Manager, Props Designer and other members of the Production Staff to build, load-in, run, and load-out all mainstage productions in our Theater Tent. This position reports to the Director of Production.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with the props designer to and maintain scenic and prop elements for all productions.
- Work under the supervisor of the Facilities Manager to load in and strike the Theater Tent.
- Responsible for safety, upkeep, and operations of all HVSF work spaces and tools under the supervision of the Director of Production and Facilities Manager.
- Work with Lighting Supervisor, Sound Supervisor, and Facilities Manager to oversee and execute the hang and installation of the stage grid and related elements.
- Member of the stage crew; the Deck Carpenter will be responsible for running the deck for all mainstage shows under the supervision of the Stage Manager.
- Responsible for daily care and maintenance of the performance space include the the stage area
- Work closely with other artists to build a safe, respectful, and anti-rasict backstage environment; Display and promote multi-cultural competency and sensitivity.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated skills of theatrical carpentry, knot-tying, soft goods, scenic props, basic scenic paints.
- Complete understanding of backstage etiquette. A good working knowledge of technical theatre practices.
- Valid Drivers’ license and clean DMV record.
- This position is physical in nature and required to work outdoors. The ability to climb ladders, lifts, reach above head. Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull and lift up to 70 pounds and work outside, exposed to the elements.

Sound Supervisor
The Sound Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of the audio department for productions and all events at our Theater Tent. This position reports to the Director of Production.
Responsibilities include:
- Participate as a member of the Senior Production Staff. Senior Production Staff include the Lighting Supervisor, Company Manager, Wardrobe Supervisor, Production Carpenter, and are responsible for overseeing the operations at the Theater Tent.
- Oversee all activities and safety of the Audio Department, including running shows and maintaining equipment for the operations of the 2023 HVSF Season.
- Work with the Lighting Supervisor, Production Carpenter, and Facilities Manager to oversee and execute the hang/installation and load out of the stage grid and related elements.
- Maintaining audio systems, Qlab files, and back-line equipment through load in, tech, performances, and strike.
- Maintain and repair sound, communications, and video equipment owned and rented by HVSF.
- Work with Sound Designers and Musical Director to execute high quality designs.
- Mix sound and facilitate audio needs for all events at the Theater Tent.
- Generate and maintain any paperwork for the show including written instructions, check lists, and cue lists.
- Supervise and train sound assistant and other members of the audio department as needed.
- Monitor audio supplies available for the run
- Set up, power on, and strike tech table gear as required.
- Coordinate with other departments such as props to execute designs as needed
- Work closely with other artists to build a safe, respectful, and anti-rasict backstage environment. Display and promote multi-cultural competency and sensitivity.
- Responsible for safety, upkeep, and operations of all HVSF workspaces and tools under the supervision of the Director of Production, Facilities Manager.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated skills and working knowledge of technical theatrical practices; experience with wireless microphones including RF coordination and safe theatrical microphone rigging.
- Proficient in QLab, mixing & programming digital consoles, and digital audio distribution systems such as Dante.
- Complete understanding of backstage etiquette.
- Valid Drivers’ license and clean DMV record.
- This position is physical in nature and required to work outdoors. The ability to climb ladders, lifts, reach above head. Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds and work outside, exposed to the elements.

Sound Assistant
The Sound Assistant works as a member of the run crew & works closely with the Sound Supervisor to execute designs at the Theater Tent. The Run Crew will be an integral part of the production department providing support specifically to the sound, audio, and music departments through tech and performances. The Sound Assistant reports to the Director of Production and the Sound Supervisor.
Responsibilities include:
- Be present and report on time to all scheduled shifts required including but not limited to notes calls, changeovers, tech rehearsals, previews, and performances.
- Serve as a member of the run crew for performances. Provide support in operating and programming audio equipment including operating a console. Support the lighting, audio, & props departments as needed while running shows in repertory throughout 2024 season.
- Install audio and musical equipment as part of the rotating repertory schedule and the operations of the 2024 HVSF Season.
- Maintain run of show paperwork, under the supervision of lighting/sound supervisor and stage manager.
- Work with musicians and sound supervisor to monitor and stock perishables for the audio and music departments.
- Work closely with other artists to build a safe, respectful, and anti-racist backstage environment.
- Practice and promote multi-cultural competency and sensitivity.
- Responsible for safety, upkeep, and operations of all HVSF workspaces and tools under the supervision of the Director of Production, Facilities Manager.
Qualifications:
- Background, degree or equivalent experience in technical theater, with a focus on sound. Basic understanding and experience with sound consoles, audio equipment, and electrical & ladder
safety. - Complete understanding of backstage etiquette. A working knowledge of technical theatre practices.
- Valid Drivers’ license and clean DMV record, and being comfortable driving with passengers.
- HVSF requires all staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
- This position is physical in nature and required to work outdoors. The ability to climb ladders, lifts, reach above head. Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds and work outside, exposed to the elements.
