Military Milestones

Throughout our history, HVSF has worked to build strong relationships with the faculty, staff, and cadets of the United States Military Academy at West Point, just across the river from our summer home at Boscobel House & Gardens. Through annual workshops and touring productions for cadets and military families, West Point Night programs and discounts at the HVSF Theater Tent, and opportunities for West Point academics to share their knowledge with audiences during pre-show discussions, we continue to extend a hand to our brothers and sisters in arms. For many of the cadets we serve, HVSF’s productions and workshops are their first-ever exposure to live theater.

Notable milestones with our military neighbors include:

  • 2008 HVSF launched its first theater arts workshops at West Point.
  • 2013 We expanded our workshop offerings to the entire class of over 1,100 first-year cadets. West Point faculty supported kid-friendly, pre-show programming for HVSF’s Family Night during our run of THE THREE MUSKETEERS.
  • 2014 West Point faculty and staff advised HVSF’s Acting Company as they prepared for a military-themed production of OTHELLO.
  • 2015 We began a now-annual tradition of bringing one summer mainstage show to West Point with HVSF’s one-man production of AN ILIAD. The show made the cover of West Point Alumni Magazine that fall.
  • 2016 HVSF received a Blue Star Theatre grant, which supported our annual cadets’ workshop and allowed our Spring Education Tour, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, to visit West Point Middle School in Highland Falls, NY. Our all-female mainstage production of MACBETH traveled to West Point.
  • 2017 HVSF hosted a week of free programming surrounding the Hudson Valley’s rich military history titled the Week of Revolution, in tandem with our mainstage production of THE GENERAL FROM AMERICA.
