Vernon Wilson currently chairs the Upper Division English Department at Horace Mann School in the Bronx, NY, where he has taught with great pleasure since 2011. Prior to his arrival at Horace Mann, he occupied various leadership roles at Prep for Prep, a well-known nonprofit educational organization in New York City whose goals, namely increasing educational opportunities for students emerging from underrepresented communities in the New York City area, mirror his own passions.
Vernon graduated with his BA in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University, achieving his MA at Columbia in the same discipline in 1998, as well as his MFA in Fiction Writing at Hunter College in 2011. When not enjoying his teaching duties, Vernon is a loving husband and proud father of two children, ages 11 and 8. He also devotes his time to writing fiction.
Vernon joined the HVSF board in 2020.
